Today's Golfer Expert Review
As soon as you drive into the car park you know Ardglass is special. The clubhouse is built in an old fort dating back to the 14th century, and its walls drop into the sea. The first tee is just feet away from the waves, too, and the sea is in view from every hole. The golf course is just incredible. In parts it's a Pebble Beach lookalike: the par-5 11th skirts a bay where any sliced shot is wet; then you climb a hill to an elevated tee at the par-3 12th, where the green juts out into the water; to the right of that is the tee for the 13th, which literally has waves lapping at its edges. All the par-3s are fantastic, but the other one that really stands out is the second – there’s a ravine between the tee and the green with a 200ft drop into the sea below.
