Today's Golfer Expert Review
If you enjoy golf and The Bard you’ll be in your element at the Menzies Welcombe Hotel & GC which is literally down the road from William Shakespeare’s home town and birthplace.
The course and hotel sits in 157 acres of wonderful rolling parkland, the former having successfully staged the European Seniors Tour Ryder Cup event just over a decade ago.
The undulating nature of the layout means you’re afforded panoramic views from several elevated tees while being guaranteed to play a number of shots from dubious sloping lies.
Pick of the holes? A tough call but the seriously downhill par-4 12th gives you a chance of finding the green while the penultimate hole is a classy right dogleg par-4 with the tee sitting next to the hotel.
Staying at the on-site Jacobean-style mansion hotel (built in 1866) is a real treat – you can either unwind by the roaring log fire in the striking oak panelled lounge or in the luxury new spa.
