Course information

The Mere Golf and Country Club was originally designed by Open champions James Braid and George Duncan in 1934, the 18 holes are set in beautiful mature parkland and around a large mere – put to novel and good use by the club as a driving range featuring floating balls! The Course is a challenge for most golfers who come and play here. Notice it is the price variants depending on the time of day and year in which you play.

Often referred to as ‘the Wentworth of the North,’ Mere G&CC oozes affluence. One look at the gleaming and luxurious cars in the car park is proof enough that you probably won’t bump into too many members trying to cadge a ball or two. We thoroughly enjoyed the opening holes but after a while thought the course began to feel ‘samey.’ However, Mere finishes with a flourish, the final four holes being visually superb. It must be said though that following a sizzling summer the course wasn’t in top nick and we were somewhat irked by the bumpy greens and inconsistent bunkers.
