Golf World Expert Review
The Ailsa has history and quality in its design. But of all the great links, there is none more dramatic, or breathtaking, or stunningly beautiful. Set on a rocky outcrop on the south Ayrshire coast, above a stunning expanse of sandy beach, you look out west to that great big birthday cake of a rick, Ailsa Craig, where every curling stone in Britain used to come from. And it si the proximity to the sea which makes Turnberry so special. Unlike many classic links, the seas is visible from every part of the course, and eight consecutive holes from the 4th run right hard up against the shoreline. Indeed, along this stretch the sea is not out of bounds, and many a wayward fellow has tried to hack his way back towards the straight and narrow. Mackenzie Ross has produced an outstanding layout which never ceases to surprise.

I've been fortunate to play all over Planet Golf, but the Ailsa is right up there with the best of them. It's always in tip-top condition with super-true, velvety greens. The location also takes your breath away. Star holes are the sweeping par-4 5th, overlooked by massive dunes and the cliff edge drive over the bay brings an unforgettable conclusion to the front nine.
