Golf World Expert Review
This is pure, unadulterated out-and-back links, a terrific test in the wind,a par 70, which is 6,110 yards off the back tess. James Braid was paid £25 for his work, and there are many Braid traits, with the par-3s all facing different directions for wind condition variety, and a minimal use of bunkering because the natural beauty of the land is maximised. Look out for the little burns which weave in and out (the 13th is a 125-yard par-3 called Snake for this reason), and the finishing hole, a par-3 which finishes in front of the clubhouse.
2009 Course Review:
Brora is one of those Scottish courses good enough to be a classic links, yet obscure enough that you’ll feel as if you have discovered your own private slice of links heaven. This is true, classic links golf: nine holes out, nine holes back, hugging the sea almost the entire time, wide open exposed to the elements. There is an incredible feeling of golf meeting nature and of connecting with the bored shepherd who first struck a pebble with his crook. It’s short by modern standards – 6,100 yards – but is so gorgeously natural that you won’t care if you’re only hitting a wedge to some of the par 4s. Not so much a hidden gem as a hidden six-carat diamond.
