Course information

Golfing experience of Machynys Peninsula Golf Club: Virtually within weeks of opening in the summer of 2005, Machynys was staging the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe. The shaping of the £3.5m golf course layout included the creation of 25 acres of new lakes - salt and fresh water - 12 miles of irrigation pipes and six miles of drainage pipes, to ensure the golf course is in top condition all year round. It was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus whose son Gary oversaw the project on behalf of his dad.

Accommodation: The Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli is just five minutes away and in Swansea there’s the Dragon and Morgan hotels.

It’s hard to believe this Jack Nicklaus layout, Machynys Peninsula Golf Club, opened just a couple of weeks prior to our visit. It was in great all-round shape and the USGA-spec tees and greens were particularly stunning. There are several candidates for the ‘best hole award’ but the one that really stands out is the demanding par 4 16th where you need to hit a solid drive over water, usually into the prevailing wind off the estuary.
