Swing Drills

Check out these four quick drills below that you can practice to fix your game sharpish!

Drill 1: Right foot back
Fixes: The slice
TG Pro: Nick Clemens

Hitting balls with the right foot dragged backwards at address encourages you to create a more rounded golf swing, helping you attack the ball from the inside. It will also help those of you from a slightly older generation to turn better in the backswing. If you tend to slice the ball, give this a go!

Drill 2: Club on the ground
Fixes: Poor chipping
TG Pro: Nick Clemens

When practicing your chipping, position a club on the ground just outside your right foot as shown. This encourages wrist hinge on the way back and steepness into the ball on the way down, promoting a ball then turf contact.

Drill 3: Swimming noodles
Fixes: Slice and poor coil in the backswing
TG Pro: Adrian Fryer

Position three swimming noodles or piping insulation available from good hardware stores. The goal should be to not knock them over in your backswing, but knock the front two over through impact. This drill is great for curing the slice and building torque and therefore power. It also produces resistance and coil in the backswing, helping you unwind from the ground up.

Drill 4: Brush drill
Fixes: Fairway bunker striking
TG Pro: Nick Clemens

The key to consistent fairway bunker play is to sweep the ball off the sand. By using a shallower angle of attack into the ball, you'll take less sand which means more power is put into the ball and not lost in the sand.
