Kenny Perry sat in a group with the rest of his U.S. teammates at the Presidents Cup three years ago, pouring out their hearts to captain Jack Nicklaus on how much he meant to them and how badly they wanted to win. Of all the things to say at such a poignant moment, Perry thanked him for Muirfield Village. The ...

Jack Nicklaus always envisioned the Memorial as a northern version of the Masters, from the superb course conditions to super slick greens, from caddies wearing white coveralls to grounds so immaculate that nary a cigarette butt is to be found. He got his wish Thursday, at least with the greens. Mathew Goggin spent as little time on them as possible, ...

The Memorial had high hopes of landing all of the top 10 players in the world for the first time until Tiger Woods decided his left knee was not fully recovered from surgery. Since then, the stars have been falling like rain, which is never a good sign at Muirfield Village. Adam Scott opted not to play, citing fatigue. Vijay ...

The flag was in a tempting location, back and left on the 13th green at the TPC Sawgrass with a pond running alongside the left side. Sergio Garcia took dead aim with a 7-iron and the ball never left its target. This is nothing new with Garcia, who rarely struggles to make solid contact. What pleased him was to see ...

Fifty years after Arnold Palmer won the Masters for the first time, he settled over the ball Thursday morning and hit a ceremonial tee shot that went so far he never saw it land. Blame that on the thick fog that settled over Augusta National. ``Fifty years ago, it went a lot farther,'' Palmer said. ``But the tee was a ...

The Masters had a familiar feel Thursday, from the warmth of a spring garden to the pockets of cheers that celebrated spectacular shots, even to some of the names on the leaderboard. Justin Rose was at the top after 18 holes, the third straight time he's managed that. Tiger Woods couldn't break 70 on the first day for the 12th ...

Ann Curtis came in the back gates of Augusta National expecting little more than a nice day with her husband. She is not a golfer, has never been here before, but what she saw gave her a start. ``I'm not one that's easily awed,'' she said. ``It's just breathtaking.'' Before her was a cathedral of spring - home to the ...

Augusta National has always been known as the cathedral of golf, but now it's for reasons beyond the august atmosphere and beauty so majestic that every hole is named after a flower. More than anything, it has become as quiet as church. Someone hit the mute button at the Masters last year when Zach Johnson won at 1-over 289, tying ...
