Talk about the Magnificent Seven. If Cambridgeshire golfer John Sharples didn't regard number seven as his lucky number, he certainly does now...
John (39) is still on cloud nine after uncannily registering his first ever hole-in-one on the seventh day of the seventh month of 2007. If that wasn't enough he achieved it on the 7th hole of the Club Championship and used - you've guessed it - a 7-iron. Unbelievable and sales engineer John is still in a state of shock, saying: " I didn't realise for quite a while what had happened.
"The hole is hidden from view from the tee and I spent a while looking for the ball ...until someone suggested I checked out the hole! "
Although he didn't win the championship, it was still a memorable occasion for John who celebrated in style by placing a bottle of plonk on each of the 18 tables at the official function afterwards.
