Mizuno are renowned for their jaw-droppingly gorgeous blades and nothing sets tongues wagging on tour than rumours that the Japanese forging legends are about to release a new set of MP-68 irons.

So much so that players and technicians from other tour trucks regularly try and sneak into Mizuno's lair for a crafty peek.

Thankfully, we've saved you the trouble of looking out that black balaclava and utility belt because we've got our hands on a set and can reveal all.

The new Mizuno MP-68 irons are designed to assimilate the best features of Mizuno's historical blades, including the legendary MP-33.

The head shape, offset and turf interaction has been designed on feedback from Mizuno's tour workshops.

Masao Nagai, global director of R&D for Mizuno, said: "The 68 takes everything we've learned from our previous blades in terms of shape, offset and turf interaction and combines them into one clean package.

"We started with the MP-33, by common consent a modern classic and looked at the tools at our disposal which could improve it. The biggest gains came from our research into feel - in blind tests over 80 per cent of our Tour players chose the MP-68 design over the MP-33.

"We also made a few minor tweaks to the head shape. Cambering the top edge gives the MP-68 a much more playable look, while scaling down the PW addresses the one acknowledged imperfection of the MP-33."

The MP-68 iron conforms to the new 2010 guidelines from the R&A and USGA and is available in a Black Nickel or Mirror Chrome finish.

Sets are available by custom order only and are priced at £95 per club for the Mirror Chrome and £105 for the Black Nickel finish.
