Jin Jeong has won the Silver Medal for finishing as the lading amateur in the 150th anniversary Open Championship.

The Korean qualified to play at St Andrews by winning the Amateur Championship at Muirfield in June and continued his terrific introduction to links golf with rounds of 68, 70, 74 and 72 this week.

His -4 total of 284 is enough for a top-20 finish and was finished in style with a stunning eagle on the par-4 18th.

The 20-year-old revealed after his round that he would probably turn pro after his debut Masters appearance at Augusta in 2011.

"It was a dream come true," said Jeong. "I played the British Amateur and now I'm finally here at St Andrews, I mean, it's quite a lot.

"And I played really well and finished eagle. I don't think I can forget that moment."
