Golf Insurance

Gear News

16 February 2009 16:18

We all know golf is a wonderful, unpredictable game in which anything can happen...and often does.

It obviously provides plenty of thrills and spills but golf can also prove  pretty expensive, particularly in today’s ‘compensation culture’ age.

Playing golf can be a risky business in that you could be on a golfing high one minute but one wayward shot later and potentially you can easily find yourself in deep financial water… wherever you’re playing in the world.

And there is where golf insurance comes into play and, in a worse case scenario, come to your rescue and prove your salvation.

It really is remarkable how many golfers are not covered insurance-wise when they take to the golf course which let's face it can be a fairly dangerous ‘playground.’

Taking out golf insurance then is a wise, commonsense move and will ensure you have peace of mind whenever and wherever you tee it up in the future.

You can be insured for everything from braining a fellow golfer with a wild tee to scoring a hole-in-one and the ensuing sizeable bar bill.

And taking out a golf insurance annual policy doesn’t cost an arm-and-a-leg either. In fact  you could be covered for 12 months from about £40 and for that you can expect  £2m of public liability cover, £25,000-£50,000 worth of personal accident cover and up to £2,500 (including clothing) equipment cover.

But that’s not all: you will also benefit to the tune of £300 to celebrate your hole-in-one in the bar afterwards while you can also claim back a slice of your club fees, say if you’ve suffered either injury or illness.

As they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry as keen golfer Mark Watson will readily testify. Mark recently  found himself at the centre of a four-year legal struggle after a wayward drive broke the cheekbone of a player playing in the group in front.

He was successfully sued by the ‘victim’ but the blow was somewhat softened by the fact he was adequately insured. “You don’t expect these things to happen in sport and I don’t know what I’d have done if I hadn’t been properly insured,” he admitted.

There are plenty of specialist companies out there offering all the golfing cover you’ll ever need whether it be to insure your precious clubs against theft or damage or to guard against anything disastrous occurring on that eagerly-awaited golfing break or holiday.
