Review from the magazine

TG rating Rating: 4

Mizuno have become famous for making great irons and their MX17 range proved to the world of golf that they were serious golfers in the game improvement iron market too.

The Mizuno MX17 is a really easy to hit golf club with a confidence-inspiring cavity back design and large face, making even poorly hits shots fly straight. The MX17 comes supplied with a top quality grip and can be bought right through from three iron to sand wedge. As they've been on the market now for a couple of years the Mizuno MX17 is also a really affordable set of irons that you can pick up for around a couple of hundred quid - amazing value in our book!

2005: Mizuno MX17

In the mid priced iron market it is always comforting to have a known brand in your hands. You have spent a reasonable amount of your hard-earned on a new set of irons and the last thing you need is your mates laughing at you on the first tee because they have never heard of your new clubs.
The deep cavity and wide sole of the MX-17s is very forgiving and we found that we hit consistent, well-flighted shots on demand. The club sits beautifully behind the ball and appears to have plenty of loft on the face, which will boost confidence even if you are not a particularly good striker of the ball.
Although the soles of the clubs are quite heavy and thick, the general look of the club was not as chunky as some of the others on test. It was easy to get the ball airborne from most lies and the head felt very stable even on off-centre hits.

Verdict: these really are a great choice and come a very close second in this test. They are good quality, will perform very well for most players at this price and are from a trusted brand.
