Cleaning Irons

Being a high handicap thrasher with the unenviable habit of digging up half the golf course during my round (to the annoyance of my clubs green-keepers), I inevitably finish my round with half the course embedded in the grooves of my irons. I’m aware my swing is like the mad axe-man and that to avoid clogging the grooves on my irons I should improve my golf game. However, realising I’m no Tiger Woods and that the pleasure and enjoyment I get out of my rounds of golf with my amiable friends contributes to my love of the game, I continued to slog it out with a scrubbing brush and usually freezing cold water to clean the grooves in my irons before setting out for my next thrash around the course.
You and your readers may well say that a few lessons and continuance to read the instruction sections in Today’s Golfer would be the preferred method to prevent club groove blockage.
But just hold on there a minute – while cleaning the alloy wheels of my car one Sunday morning, I decided to try some of the cleaning fluid I was using on my irons.
What an improvement. The dirt miraculously dissolved leaving totally clean grooves and also bringing the club heads back to a condition that was almost like new. The effort taken was minimal. A light wipe with a brush and a dunk in a bucket of water and hey presto ... gleaming clean clubs.
Now I’m ready to head out again and dig up half the course with my almost pristine set of irons – to the dread of our green-keepers.
The alloy wheel cleaner I used was Auto Glym but I am sure any similar product would give a similar result.
I hope the above information will be of some use to your readers (golfers of all abilities will benefit).
My thanks to you and your team for a great read and I absolutely love the Web site. Maybe if I continue to watch the training videos, I might end up with a lighter bag on my way home (having less of the course attached to my clubs)
