HOW TO CURE THAT SLICE!

Since taking up golf in June 2007, I have been fighting a vicious slice off my driver and fairway metals. Anyone who slices regularly knows how disheartening it is and I'm sure there is plenty of amateur golfers who have given up the game because they've been unable to cure it. I almost joined them! I cured my slice overnight simply by reading a short article about posture, and I was so amazed by the results that I'm eager to pass on the advice to all you slicers out there. When I set up to the ball with my driver and fairway metals I ensured my spine was straight and that my arms hung loosely below my chin, but my problem was that I bent too far forward from the hips. This meant that there was between three and four hand widths between the butt of my club and my belt buckle. The resulting slice was terrible. The ball would start straight and then veer right at a ridiculously embarrassing right angle. The odd shot that I managed to hit with only a slight fade (straight by my standards) whimpered to a powerless stop around one hundred and fifty yards. You can imagine my scorecard! It all ended when I read an article which suggested that you should stand more upright so that there is only one hand width between the butt of the club and your belt buckle. I had nothing to lose so I tried it out during my next round. It felt strange at first, quite cramped, but I couldn’t believe the resulting shot. My ball finally went straight, and my first tee shot on a 316 yard par 4 landed beautifully down the centre of the fairway 56 yards from the pin, a whole 110 yards longer than my previous best. I shaved 15 strokes from my game in that one round and my driver has shown no signs of the slice that plagued it ever since. So if you’re a slicer, start thinking about your posture and set up to the ball taller and closer. I guarantee you’re golf game will be rewarded.
