What we say

The last of Harry Colt’s 10 courses in the Netherlands was built in 1938, although it was his design associate Charles Alison who did much of the key work as the former was travelling less frequently at this stage in his life. Seventy years later, outstanding continental architect Frank Pont was commissioned to refurbish the links and did so with painstaking attention to detail in a bid to return the course to that envisaged by Alison and Colt. The sandy dunescape is almost as striking as the evil little run-offs round the greens, the result of working with sandy sub-soil and not working with heavy machinery. While the soil is gloriously sandy there are also elements of inland golf to the scene at ‘Koninklijke Haagsche’, with hundreds of deciduous trees lining some fairways and forming the backdrops to greens.
