What we say

Designed by the American golf architect Joseph Lee, it is set within the idyllic Quinta do Lago estate, and winds its way gently over undulating pine woodland. It has long been considered the Algarve’s no.1; golf writer Valdemar Afonso says: “It’s No.1 for me because the course is in fantastic condition.”

  • 3.5 out of 5 Should be so much more!

San Lorenzo should be the best golf course in Portugal. The layout is stunning with a large collection of the best holes in Portugal. It's layout is quite simply magnificant and unforgetable. However, it is not maintained and presented in the condition it should be. It's like the course (particularly fairways are tired - if this is possible!). I think they are living on past glories and take their customers for granted. Maybe the hotel owners need to get out and get the people who do such a good job down the road in Quinta do Lago maintain and run this course. I would love to see this course presented as it should be because it would then be unmissable - in the meantime I'd still recommend but keep your fingers crossed on condition!

Although I played it a couple of years ago, I remember it well. It's a good test but not for the faint-hearted. The par-4 sixth is 90degree dogleg left with a small landing area. Miss it and you are in the sea. The seventh runs along the atlantic coast. Take a medium iron for safety or you are in the sea, great course.
