Almenara Golf Club

Part of the celebrated Sotogrande complex, Almenara Golf Club's strength is in its versatility. Dave Thomas-designed and opened in Spring 1998, its three nines weave around lakes, cork trees and open areas. The golf course has no membership; it's pay-and-play only. Although all standards will enjoy playing here, tight fairways and hilly terrain set up a serious challenge. It pays to be on top of your game when you get here, but if not don't fret; the practice and coaching facilities are among the best in Europe.

  3 sets of 9 holes, lakes 7/10, pines & acorns 9/10. stayed at the hotel which we rated 10/10. the courses on their own merit?  Cheap buggies, great changing facilities, some very Spanish players didn't help proceedings but very good value. The Lakes - more bother round here than a night in the queen vic, water everywhere, tight landing areas, a technical course, greens very good, some GUR which didn't help on several holes. The Pines - more mature, opening par 5 and 2 par 4's very good, 5th short par 4 with narrow fairway and small green. Largest bunker ive ever played from! The Acorns - not the easiest course with a bad hangover but after the poor 1st it opens out into a very nice layout. enjoyed the elevated 2nd and 3rd holes. Julia Roberts Golf Society
