Brokenhurst Manor

Accuracy is paramount on my home course, a very attractive tree-lined Harry Colt design, typified by the signature par-3 12th across a valley to a heavily bunkered postage stamp green. Green fees: £65 midweek, £75 weekends. Tel: 01590 623332.

Liphook

Parkland with narrow fairways and fairly small, very fast sloping greens.

Stoneham

This undulating parkland rewards an accurate long game. The uphill par-5 18th nishes in front of the clubhouse at the high point of the course.

Hayling

A proper links with generous fairways but exacting greens with run-offs and the wind for defence.

Not as well known as it should be, boasting some quirky holes which make the course fun and ideal for match play.

Home course of Justin Rose, its mix of tight par 5s and strong par 3s make this parkland course a great test.

L’Ancresse

 On the northern end of Guernsey, this classic links has almost a triangular layout meaning you will have to play shots with and against any wind as well as across.

On top of the chalk downs on the outskirts of Winchester this course is quite different from the others in my list and is where I won the county championship.
