A move up makes this our new No.1 inland course. Not long by modern standards, and the occasional birdie is on offer, but its tight par keeps you honest – unless you are Nick Faldo in 1986 when he shot 62 – as does the heather and tree-lined fairways. Two elevated drives, on the 5th and 10th, are good examples of this, with the latter one of the finest holes in this Top 100 list.
