Stapleford Park Golf Club

What we say

Surrounded by 500 acres of Capability Brown landscaped grounds, this Donald Steel-design meanders its way around a glorious estate overlooked by a luxury hotel. It has seen European Senior Tour action and though relatively flat and open there are several water features, specially coming down the stretch, to avoid. It offers a wonderful variety of holes but watch out for the snaking River Eye which features on a number of them and has the potential to ruin your round.

  • 4.5 out of 5 Challenging but a must play course

    By Anonymous

Played as part of a fourball on a beautiful sunny day. Can't believe how quiet the course was, the odd person we did see made us feel welcome. Used our 2 fore 1 vouchers so a great way to play a championship course at sensible money. All I can say is make sure you are finding the fairways, the 1st time you play I'd play the percentages and lay-up on approach shots, the water hazards seem to be just between the landing areas of  safety and "go for it". Plenty of Par's achievable, and always nice to Par the 18th. Can't wait to play again

  • 4.5 out of 5 Brilliant!

This course is my first membership ever and doesnt disappoint! A challenging course on both still and windy days. Open and relaxed. Members of staff top-notch and very friendly, with a wide range of facilities available on your arrival. It is clear that a lot of money has been spent on this course so far, and it is something that will only get better and better over time. Many challenging holes, well thought out and planned to test even the most experienced of golfers. Well done Stapleford! I continue to look forward to playing there...as long as you have me :)

  • 4 out of 5 Nearly great

This is the course of a 5 star hotel, so it is of a certain quality. A Donald Steele design that is inland links in feel, though those of us who have played this on a windy day may consider it more difficult than a seaside links! The wind whistles down from the hills above and you realise just how open the course is. It starts gently and then from 2 onwards becomes a much tougher beast. It follows and crosses the River Eye, and these holes are in my opinion, the best on the course. The standard of greens and ourse is fantastic, you really are aware this is a first class facility. However it takes time to appreciate, and having now played it 5 times I realise not just how long, but how subtle it is. I highly recomend this course, but it is a long walk, I dont know many people who have managed 36 holes! Be aware there is a free practise range with pyramids of balls you are allowed to hit as many as you like. The club house is a beautiful thatched building and the service from the staff superb. Be aware of the 5 star rating, as a burger and fries is 12 pounds! But to be honest its the best one I have ever had, so its actually worth it. Overall I would say this is a top class golf course, though the question really is how enjoyable is it? Its taken me 5 rounds to start appreciating it, and maybe another 5 before I start to really enjoy it. There are not many courses in the Midlands that are superior to this, and for the 25 pound 2fore1 price its a bargain - I suggest you try it as soon as possible.

What a top quality course. Great value at full rate, unbelievable on 2-4-1. Only us 2 on course, long off the whites will be real tough on windy day. The staff were so friendly can't wait 2 go again.

  • 4 out of 5 5*

Played a couple of weeks ago. Course was in great condition even after heavy rain and the facilities are top dollar. It's a very challenging and long course but the 19th hole is superb and makes it all worthwhile!

  • 3.5 out of 5 Testing and challenging

    By Anonymous

Played on a very windy day in March 2006. The words testing and challenging apply. This is a course apart from Holes 1 and 18 gives you nothing. Its in beautiful condition, and the greens are superb. A proper Championship course. However as we only saw 4 others playing I think its difficulty is detrimental to its popularity. A course for low handicappers.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Course with pedigree

Played the course in October 2005 on a breezy day, This is a proper golf course to test you. The course was like a links course in places, very tight, with out-of-bounds on quite a few holes, deep rough and deep bunkers. Very long off the whites and required accurate tee shots. Parts of the course are scenic with the lake and copses of trees and parts are a little plain, but I have to say the condition of the course was second to none. Top greens and fairways cut to perfection, this is a top course and you get the use of the practice range in with your round before you start to help get you warmed up. It is a little expensive and new feeling but I am glad I have played here to get the experience of playing a course with a pedigree.
