Sherwood Forest Golf Club

What we say

Gives little away to Notts (Hollinwell) in terms of test of the long game or its condition. A heathland that can get fast-running in a dry summer and which is a match for much more illustrious inland names.

Even bandits will do well to survive in the heart of Robin Hood country. Majestically plotted between rows of silver birch, pine and oak trees standing proud in Clipstone Woods within the legendary Sherwood Forest itself, this track isn’t regarded as one of England’s finest heathland layouts for nothing. Indeed it’s another slice heathland heaven at the heart of Robin Hood country and also touched by the hands of Colt and latterly Braid. The greens are quality and you’ll do well to negotiate all 94 bunkers!

  • 5 out of 5 Never played an inland course so good

    By Robin

A true heathland course that still reflects the hand of its original makers. Probably the finest greens in the Midlands, if not further a field, all surrounded by heather, wavy hair grasses and the famous Sherwood Forest. If you enjoy a "true" test of the old game then try Sherwood Forest Golf Club. The back nine played especially tough into a prevailing wind, but nonetheless we enjoyed it all. Great golf available at a great price what more could you wish for.

  • 4.5 out of 5 Fantastic course and beautiful setting.

The MOST Wonderful greens every time I play here - in the summer admittedly- great rolling terrain with enough trees and foliage to punish a wayward shot. This is truly a great golfing venue. Definitely one of the top places in an area blessed with great courses.

  • 4 out of 5 Sherwood Forest for merry men

    By martinhope

Played Sherwood Forest for the first time last week with our local golf society.   Maybe I'm biaised because I won the trophy but this is some golf course;  right up there with Hollinwell or Woodhall Spa.  Greens like glass, fairways running for ever and some penal rough.  Very much a course of two halves with a need to make your score on the front nine.  There are some punishing par fours as you turn for home.  A memorable day, complemented by the warm welcome from the Secretary, Pro and bar staff.

  • 4.5 out of 5 What a Golf Course

    By Richard Slater

What a fantastic course. The greens are lightning quick, even in winter. A real tough test of golf, especially 9 through to 14. One of the top 3 courses in Nottinghamshire without a doubt. It is like millionaires golf, never too busy, no tee times to book a week in advance. An absolute pleasure to play. Would recommend anyone to try.

  • 3 out of 5 great escape

you wouldn't think it driving up the dirty road to the course from Mansfield but get to SFGC and the welcome you receive and facilities are good. The course was undergoing renovation when I played so make sure you check as they didn't tell us on the phone. Once on the back nine the course comes into its own though and it's a good challenge. Worthy of the green fee but not a top ten course by any means. Greens good nick as are trhe fairways but bunkers etc need work.
