Mellor & Townscliffe Golf Club

What we say

Lying on the western hills of the Pennines where Derbyshire and Cheshire meet, Mellor is an interesting mixture of moorland and parkland golf. Magnificent views across the Cheshire plain and Derbyshire hills serve as a backdrop for a course to test the skills of all golfers at all levels. The opening holes, although not long, provide an immediate examination of shotmaking ability and are set among mixed woodland including oak and elegant silver birch.

Holes seven to 12 now assume the true moorland character and the golfer who plays to his handicap on these challenging holes will be well satisfied.

The closing holes - now in a parkland setting include two par fives, both with water to negotiate and a 443 yard par four finish that demands two long accurate shots to find the well-guarded home green.

  • 5 out of 5 Views to die for but a bit of a climb!

It had been raining all morning and stopped just as we tee'd off. Greens were a bit soggy after so much rain but drained really well as the round progressed. The fairways didnt show any ill effects at all and overall the course was in great condition. Sloping lies on many holes and some spectacular views from the 9th especially. With many mature trees and well defined layout, it was a pleasure to play. It was a hilly course but dont be fooled by the length, it plays longer!

Stunning views of Cheshire and Derbyshire ! The course is a gem, a great layout. We played it on a Groupon voucher too ! The par 3s are all different and challenging especially. Fairways were excellent and although the greens had been dressed they putted true. Only downer is its another one with some tough climbs. I recommend an electric trolley or a golf cart ? Pro and members were very friendly. Rake sin every bunker, lifesavers by the ponds and carpeted areas on some of the paths all adds up to a course with everything thought of. I loved the short hole over the ravine, the long blind par 3 on the back 9 and the 18th where you have to hit your second over the road into the course. An interesting course in a beautiful setting.

I have played M & T twice before and can thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who enjoys not only playing on a very good golf course, but also likes being out and about in a beautiful countryside location. Postioned on the foothills of the Pennines, this golf course not only provides you with some excellent golfing facilities in terms of the layout and playabilty of all of the holes, but also some stunning views over both the Pennine hills to the east and the Cheshire countryside to the west. There are some great par 3 holes here to test your short game, as well as tree lined par 4's, which require both good driving and approach shots to make par. The clubhouse as a balcony overlooking the 18th green and the counctryside beyond. A warm welcome is always given to vistors to the course. It is excellent value at £15 each with a '2 fore 1' voucher. Just choose a nice bright day on which to visit if you want to experience golfing heaven.
