Eccleston Park Golf Club

Eccleston Park is an 18 hole parkland course situated in Rainhill, Merseyside, close to the Cheshire border. It is easily accessible from the M62 and M57 motorways, and also the East Lancs Road (A580). The club provides the perfect location for golf and events of all kind, and offers excellent value for money.

After significant re-development over the past 2 years, the course is now a testing 6477 yard par 71. It is reasonably flat and therefore easy going on all golfers, especially the more senior player.

   I'm a member at the course, and the thing that keep me there is the value, and banter. In the summer the greens are great, but there is still no work ready for the winter greens, courses close by have been prepping winter greens since August. Also the fairways are in very poor condition with poor grass. The rough seems unmanaged and the bunkers are either down to the sub-base or over loaded with sand. The biggest issue is the lack of Marshalls, for a course that is part of a bigger group you would think there would be a decent bank of Marshalls that are happy to speak to people about pacce of play and etiquette. Many of the Marshalls will not approach slow players to speed them up, if you do see a Marshall when your playing let the pro-shop know you may even win a prize for spotting one in action. The clubhouse is more of a canteen with a bar in the corner and the shoe/trolley cleaner never works. Same as the nets which are threadbare. The most serious thing you will notice is the lack of protection provided for the junior practise area, if you slice or shank a shot of the 17th tee there is a very good chance you may hit a child when they are practising as there is no net or practise bays to offer protection from players teeing off. For the older or less active player, the course is level enough to walk, but also challenging with good bunkering and water hazards. Even with the negative points I have raised the course has a fantastic atmosphere and can provide a good challenge to the average player.

  Played course  07-04 2010 following a few days rain. Course in good condition but a bit wet in some places, wind was quite strong and as there is little shelter around the course some holes were playing quite long. Very friendly staff and excellent facilities, will definately be going back!
