Tinsley Park Golf Club

What we say

This picturesque Sheffield municipal course measures just over 6,100 yards off the back tees but with so many hills and slopes to negotiate it’s still a good, enjoyable walk.

With the yardage virtually the same on the two halves of 35, a golfer could get suckered into believing the game plan is the same throughout the 18 holes.

But you’d be wrong – this is a track where a player needs to think carefully about club selection from hole to hole, particularly off the tee.

Although the front nine has at least three drivable par-4s, the sensible choice is actually to leave the ‘big stick’ in the bag.

However, you can pluck it out over the inward half when the holes are longer but slightly more forgiving on wayward tee shots.

It boasts a challenging closing stretch, the 17th being one of the most difficult par-3s you’ll ever play. It’s a 180 yarder but with the elevated green being protected by out of bounds to the left and trees to the right, it’s a real card wrecker.

A 70-par course measuring 5746 yards is an enjoyable test of golf for all standards.
There are several memorable holes requiring full concentration.
Buggy, trolley and club hire available from the pro shop which also has a wide range of golf equipment for sale. Lessons available from a qualified PGA coach. Societies welcome by prior arrangement.

This course is situated in an odd position between the main road into the city and a dodgy shopping area, but dont let that put you off playing this popular course. The clubhouse looks a bit tired and in need of a little love and attention but the welcome is warm and friendly. The course is a long hitters dream, the fairways are wide and long, but any slices will be punished with a pointless ball search as the short rough eats golf balls!!. Can get busy in summer (dont they all) but winter players can have it all to themselves. Good course all year round due to decent drainage.
