Isle of Purbeck Golf Club – Purbeck Course

What we say

Isle of Purbeck Golf Club’s Purbeck course is one of the best golf courses in England and one of the best value.

Despite having a coastline of 88 miles, there are no true links to enjoy in Dorset, but that does not mean the county lacks variety.

In fact, its elite courses are all different, even though the best three are heathland in character. Then you can head to Swanage and Isle of Purbeck for something… that is a hard to characterise. A ‘moorland on cliffs’ being our best attempt.

You can either drive here or get the ferry from Sandbanks ferry, which saves half an hour in the car (sandbanksferry.co.uk).

The Purbeck championship course (there is also the nine-hole Dene here) sits in our Golf World Top 100 Courses England and high in our ‘£60 and Under GB&I list’ and was established in 1892.

This 6,295-yard course sits in a nature reserve that is home to rare birds and plants and was once owned by the writer Enid Blyton. The club is about to embark on investment that could see it challenge for a GB&I Top 100 position, for the views it offers are rarely bettered in these isles.
