What we say...

 2009, Updated Model – Review

This is going down a storm on Tour according to Callaway – we’ve even got Ernie raving about its qualities (page 96). But our guys weren’t universally smitten, though Jon was close to putting it in his bag before the end of the test! He gave it fives across the board. Chris thought it was a little “middle of the road”, preferring the other Callaway on test. This is also available in a Tour model.

The Callaway FT-9 Driver is available in draw or neutral set-ups with a variety of shaft options. The driver combines distance with premium shot-saving control. It has been designed for power and accuracy, using Fusion and Hyperbolic Face Technology and the Optifit Weighting System. The Hyperbolic Face Cup Technology means the ball will travel off the clubface faster than ever before!Golfers can choose a draw or neutral setting with the driver. While this Callaway driver uses state-of-the-art technology it manages to retain a traditional and classy look. The better golfer will love the clean and meaningful look of the driver.

The replacement for the popular FT-5 driver has Hyperbolic Face Technology, which means the thickness of the face has been strategically designed to increase ball speed across the whole surface area.

Building on the success of the previous FT-5, this FT-9 Driver from Callaway Golf has increased power with the introduction of Hyperbolic Face Cup Technology, strategic shaping of the face thickness to dramatically increase ball speeds across the whole face. More power is transferred to the ball with the largest face of any Callaway Golf driver, plus increased MOI for shots hit high and low on the face, the FT-9 generates significantly more carry by improving ball flight on miss-hits.

The FT-9 is available in draw or neutral set-ups with a variety of shaft options.

  • 5 out of 5 Callaway FT-9 Driver

I have the Callaway FT-9 Driver with 10* loft and the stock regular shaft in neutral set up in my bag now for the past 10 weeks and I can honestly say that I am now hitting the ball at least 5-10 yds further than my older Ping G10 driver. The Ft-9 I feel sits more square at address and promotes a very good flight of the ball both into the wind and wnd assisted. I am now learning to shape the ball much better with this club although I do have a natural draw flight I am now working on my fade and I feel that this driver has the ability along with myself to provide any shot that is required. The shaft is very good too and I feel the kick point is very good for me and I would strongly recommend getting custom fitted for your driver as I had this done and I really feel that this is what I am benefiting from now. The only slight niggle is that the headcover is so tight on the head that you feel that you are wrestling with in every time that you use it but if at the end of the day this is all you have to complain about then Callaway really have done a great job. I have been so impressed with this club that I am now in the process of changing all my clubs over to Callaway.
