What we say...

The test team jury were unanimous when it came to the fabulous Diablo Edge irons – they all raved about the forgiveness, loved the feel and the looks of Callaway’s new easy-to-hit sticks for 2010. The manufacturer says the club is one big sweetspot, and our man Craig certainly agreed. He noted that he hit a few pretty fat and they still rattled down the fairway at a great distance – and, more importantly, were straight. The Diablo Edge irons feature something called a Solid Impact
sole which has been designed to negate the effects of fat and thin shots. The team also noted a really high flight and this was because of the low and deep centre of gravity that the Callaway engineers have worked with. The Diablo Edge bats also boast a 360° undercut cavity behind the face which maximises perimeter weighting in the head – this means that if you get the ball nearer to the edge of the club than the middle, there will still be a good, solid result. Callaway say that these are the longest stainless steel golf irons they’ve ever produced and for pro Alex the Edge irons were certainly longer than the majority of clubs in this category of the test. Our “proper” golfer said he was pleasantly surprised by the feel and commented that even on bad shots the clubs still performed. He thought they were perfect for a higher handicapper because of the consistency the muscular head could offer, while Colin suggested that the irons felt really solid. Like most of the clubs in this category, these irons are pretty chunky – but if you’re looking for maximum assistance, these are as good as you can get.

Ratings (out of 5):

Distance: 4   Dispersion: 3.5   Looks: 4   Feel: 4.5   Forgiveness: 4.2

The longest stainless steel irons Callaway has ever created. Features core Callaway technologies like S2H2, VFT, Modified Tru-Bore and 360° Undercut Channel.

The Diablo Edge irons provide increased distance without compromising feel or performance. The lower, deeper centre of gravity makes the sweet spot more accessible and is in line with where amateurs most commonly hit the ball on the clubface, generating longer, consistent distance and improved accuracy.

The Solid Impact Sole is designed to mitigate the effects of chunked and thin shots and improve the impact location on the face for greater distance.

The set can be optimised for more distance through the entire bag by opting for matched hybrids in the set where you begin to struggle with your irons.

The Callaway Diablo Edge Irons not only won a gold award on this years irons test on Today's Golfer but also won the best on test award, to be found in issue 270.
