Hybrid Test 2012
Last year’s gold award winner has been knocked off top spot – just. Our team loved that this combined the powerful feel associated with Callaway hybrids with a sleek and compact head shape. David was impressed with the smooth sole, suggesting it is versatile because there is nothing to get snagged in the rough. Alan, meanwhile, also rated the feel and looks highly. Even Peter loved the smaller head and awarded it top marks in every category – despite it not being aimed at higher-handicap players. The Razr X Tour also delivered on performance with high marks in the distance and dispersion.
Pro verdict: The smaller head with less offset looks much better and also means it is pretty versatile for a club designed to add forgiveness. This was excellent from the fairway and the tee but one negative is that perhaps it is a little small to be as consistent from the rough.
