Welsh wonders hit the Top 100 courses in UK and Ireland

It came as a great surprise that only four Welsh courses made the Golf World Top 100 golf courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

Royal Porthcawl, which will host the 2013 Welsh Senior Open, ranks the highest of all the Welsh courses in 40th and has recently undergone a raft of developments with new run-off areas and bunkers strategically placed around numerous greens.

Royal St David’s also made the list in 49th and with a day’s golf costing just £62; it arguably offers the best value for money in the whole of Great Britain and Ireland.

Aberdovey and 2010 Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor (Twenty Ten) narrowly made the Top 100 and are the final representatives for Wales.

Nevertheless, many Welsh courses were extremely unlucky not to make the final cut and with golf courses every improving and changing, expect a greater Welsh presence in the next Top 100.
