Brummie course benefits from life-saving kit

A Birmingham golf course has now got its finger firmly on the pulse when it comes to the health of its golfers, thanks to a heart-lifting donation that will keep them literally on course.

Birmingham-based Evac+Chair International made the donation of a life-saving CardiAid Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Mytime Golf’s Hatchford Brook Golf Course in Birmingham.

The defibrillator is a ‘talking’ public access device used to provide life-saving electroshock treatment for people who suffer a heart attack or cardiac arrest.

Established in 1969, Hatchford Brook Golf Course is managed by Mytime Golf on behalf of Birmingham City Council and is very popular for its parkland grounds having over 200 members as well as excellent public access for ‘pay and play’.

Hatchford Brook GC General Manager, Duncan Attwood, said: “The course is extremely popular with the older generation and Evac+Chair’s donation will enable us to provide greater customer care for our golfers and guests. It will allow us to better manage any potential emergency situations that could arise at any time.”

Duncan added: “Although our team are fully first aid trained, the equipment provides extra comfort to everyone who uses our course. We are looking to expand the club further in the coming months, and an increased membership means increased chances of serious incidents, so having this device on hand is incredibly reassuring.”

Some 70 per cent of cardiac arrests occur outside the hospital and early defibrillation can triple a victim’s chance of survival*, therefore the presence of a public access defibrillator can enable early intervention and fast response in a life or death situation.

Barry Scholes, director at Evac+Chair International and seven-year member of Hatchford Brook Golf Club, said: “With over 30,000 Cardiac arrests in the UK every year, I think it is essential that every golf club and leisure facility in the country should be equipped with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

“Having witnessed several incidents of sudden cardiac arrest, it has opened my eyes to the importance of this equipment being on premises like Hatchford Brook.

“I am delighted to be able to present the CardiAid AED to Mytime Golf at Hatchford Golf Club on behalf of Evac+Chair International and it has been a privilege to be able to give something back to the club.”
