2-FORE!-1 six of the best

With the new season looming, still not sure where to use that 2-FORE!-1 voucher in the coming weeks? Take your pick from this classy crop and you’ll be in golfing heaven…

*Okehampton, Devon – Classy layout with great greens set out as a J.H. Taylor nine holer in 1913 but became a ‘full’ course a decade later. Plotted on undulating ground, the course plays like a parkland although it actually sits on moorland.

*The Bristol – Splendid modern Crown Golf golf complex which opened in 2000 and is set within 200-years-old historic parkland with stunning views across the Severn Estuary.

*Meyrick Park, Dorset – In the middle of Bournemouth you’ll find this magical, mature municipal parkland course which starts with a 244-yards par-3!

*Walmer & Kingsdown, Kent – Corking clifftop overlooking the world-famous White Cliffs of Dover. A classy James Braid chalky downland layout which is in good nick and playable year-round.

*Wirral Ladies, Merseyside – Don’t be put off by the name, males are warmly welcomed to tee it up on this mini-masterpiece of a heathland track cleverly laid out by local hero Harold Hilton.

*St Mellons, Wales – A hidden mature parkland gem which can be found on the eastern outskirts of Cardiff. It provides one of the bests tests of golf in South Wales and is the handiwork of legendary course architect Harry Colt.
