Clarke secures win with TaylorMade R11 driver

Darren Clarke took advantage of a final-round collapse from Englishman Chris Wood at the Iberdrola Open to claim his first Tour title since 2008.

TaylorMade staffer Clarke, last year’s Ryder Cup vice-captain, fired a one-under-par 69 in Mallorca on Sunday to win by three shots from Wood, who could only manage a 76.

The Northern Irishman was using TaylorMade’s much-talked-about new R11 driver, as well as TaylorMade’s TP MB irons which performed admirably in our recent test.

Clarke was looking good at the turn on Sunday, with a solitary birdie and eight pars giving him a six-under-par total.

But he found water on the 11th to drop back to four-under, before birdies on the 14th and 15th saw him climb the leaderboard.

In addition to the driver and irons, Clarke was also using three xFT wedges and the world’s first five-piece golf ball in the PENTA TP.

INFORMATION: Darren Clarke’s TP MB irons featured heavily in our irons test – see how they did when the magazine goes on sale on Thursday, May 19.
