Rory changes schedule for court appearance

Rory McIlroy has pulled out of two big-money events to focus on his courtroom battle with former agents Horizon Sports.

The world number one has decided to skip next week’s BMW Masters in Shanghai and the following week’s WGC-HSBC Champions tournament, also in China.

He will not pick up his clubs again until the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on November 20th-23, where he will secure the Race to Dubai title for topping the money list on the European Tour.

McIlroy said: “I’m going to need time away from tournament golf to prepare for the trial over my legal dispute with Horizon Sports Management.

“The court-directed mediation process failed over the weekend to resolve the issue.”

So far McIlroy has protected his appearances while he dealt with the looming legal case. Before to the Ryder Cup, Judge Brian McGovern had suggested both McIlroy and Horizon enter mediation to sort their differences. But talks broke down over the weekend, and McIlroy now faces a court appearance in the New Year.
