FIRST HIT VIDEO: Ping unveil Glide wedges

One of the most dramatic moments of the 2014 season came at the WGC HSBC Champions event in November when Bubba Watson, having doubled-bogeyed the previous hole, canned a bunker shot on the final green for eagle to get into a play-off he went on to win. He did so with a 60° prototype version of Ping’s new Glide wedge, which have been custom-engineering from the hands down to ensure the grip, shaft and head perform as a system for greater consistency and shot-making versatility.

Ping’s Dylawedge grip is three quarters of an inch longer than standard with softer tapering, allowing the player to grip down for better control. It also has indicators at various interval to help position the hands consistently. The CFS (Control, Feel and Stability) wedge shaft offers a lower launch to help provide trajectory control.

Like the outgoing Tour Gorge wedges, the heads are made from 431 steel to provide a softer feel and chrome plated, creating more of a silver finish at address that also improves consistency in wet conditions. The wedges are available in three sole grinds and seven lofts totaling 13 different loft/sole configurations. They feature loft-optimized Gorge grooves to achieve the ideal trajectory and spin on approach shots of any length. A 16º sidewall with a more gradual radius in lofts 47º to 54º optimizes results on full shots. In lofts 56º to 60º, a 24º sidewall with a tighter radius maximizes spin on shorter shots.

Details: Available February 14th. RRP £105 CFS steel, £120 419i graphite shaft. www.ping.com
