Cobra reveal new King CB/MB and Tec irons

King Forged CB/MB Combo Irons £749

Availability: 4-PW, Left hand? No

Steel stock shaft: KBS Tour C-Taper

Cobra say their new King Forged CB/MB Combo irons have been designed for tour to three handicap golfers. So what makes them so specialized?

Well they’ve been designed with direct input from Rickie Fowler, so the heads are a tour preferred shape with minimal offset, narrow top edges and thin soles to aid clean accurate ball striking. In store they’ll be sold as Combo sets so the long and mid irons will be cavity backs to give a degree of playability whilst the short iron musclebacks will ensure maximum control and workability.

Cobra Kind

Each head goes through a 5 stage forging process that Cobra says aligns the grain structure increasing feel and giving a tighter weight tolerance. Tungsten weights in the toe of each iron mean the centre of gravity is positioned directly behind the centre of the face, which increases the clubs shot making capabilities and heightens feel alongside the soft 1025 carbon steel. Finally to ensure maximum precision the faces and grooves of every iron are cnc milled to maximise spin and trajectory control. Each head is then treated to a super sleek diamonised black metal finish which is guaranteed to catch your eye.

Tech

King Forged Tec £699

Availability: 4-PW, Left hand? No

Steel stock shaft: KBS Tour C-Taper Lite, Graphite stock shaft: UST Recoil

Cobra reckon their new King TEC irons are “Technology Enhanced Cavity” backs and they say they’ve been designed for golfers with handicaps up to about 10. The soft forged 1025 carbon steel heads combine the feel and precision of a tour iron with the maximum forgiveness and distance you’d expect of a cavity back.

A new J15 high strength forged steel face insert saves weight, increases perimeter weighting and helps boost distance. Each head goes through a 5 stage forging process where tungsten toe weights are added to increase forgiveness and position the cg’s of each iron precisely behind the hitting zone. Feel from cavity back’s traditionally can be lacking so Cobra’s engineers have developed a new thermoplastic insert in the cavity which they say dampens vibration and improves feel.

Expect to find these instore in a premium nickel chrome finish with some top of the range KBS Tour C-Taper steel or UST Recoil graphite shafts soon.
