Woods given low-key start in Augusta

Published:

The young American Matt Kuchar and the Korean, K. J. Choi are the two (un)lucky players.

They are the two protagonists who the Green Jackets have picked to play with Tiger Woods in the first two rounds of the Masters.

Playing with Woods at any time is a bit of a lottery. It is incredibly difficult to focus on your own game, and not be distracted by the circus which follows the world number one around.

Given what has happened to Woods over the past five months, and given this is his first appearance of the year, this circus is likely to be even more intense than usual.

At 1.24 p.m. local time (6.24 p.m. British time) Kuchar, Choi and Tiger will start their first round on Thursday, in what is the second last pairing of the day.

Other notable tee times on Thursday are:

8.56 local (1.56 p.m.) Martin Kaymer, Geoff Ogilvy and Luke Donald

9.40 (2.40) Mike Weir, Lee Westwood and Matteo Manassero

10.02 (3.40) Chad Campbell, Francesco Molinari and Paul Casey

10.13 (3.13) Ernie Els, Anthony Kim and Ryo Ishikawa

10.35 (3.35) Phil Mickelson, Robert Allenby and Yong-Eun Yang

12.36 (5.36) Camilo Villegas, Kenny Perry and Rory McIlroy

1.20 (6.20) Charl Schwartzel, Stewart Cink and Padraig Harrington
