Peter Baker claims Par 3 Championship final day spoils

Former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker took the spoils in the final Celeb Am contest of the week at Nailcote Hall as the 2014 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship came to a conclusion.

Baker was ran close by Gary Wolstenholme and former Norwich City goalkeeper Bryan Gunn. Baker registered three birdies and capped off a fine week at Nailcote Hall, Warwickshire.

Yesterday saw European Tour star Eddie Pepperell win in a playoff beating off strong competition from Jak Hamblett. Pepperell took home a cheque for £25,000 and will look to replicate the success of last year’s winner Tommy Fleetwood by winning for the first time on the European Tour. Another European Tour star Paul Lawrie set pulses racing earlier in the day shooting a course record score of 46, 8 under par, a bogey free round.

On the final day of the Championship huge crowds gathered to see the likes of Coronation Steet star William Roache MBE, Neil Back MBE, Peter Shilton OBE and Dan Walker take part in the Celeb Am. The Nailcote Hall team featuring Ian Halliwell, Andrew Thirkhill, Dan Callaghan and Larry Laoretti took the spoils in the team event with a score of 11 under par.

The Championship was climaxed with a fabulous charity ball hosted by former Chairman of Selectors for the ECB, Geoff Miller. Funds raised will go towards the Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
