Free TaylorMade Project (a) balls for every reader!

Published:

We’ve teamed up with TaylorMade to offer TG readers the chance to try a sleeve of their new Project (a) balls for nothing*.

They are engineered to promote more spin and improved performance where amateurs need it most – into and around the green. The “a” stands for amateur, and the reason for its creation is simple – amateur golfers generate less spin than tour players.

Project (a) is designed to deliver more spin on mid-irons, short irons and shots around the green. According to TaylorMade, that results in enhanced control and increased scoring opportunities.

“Having gathered data from many player types including Tour pros, it’s no secret that amateurs need help generating spin and stopping the ball on the green,” said Dean Snell, vice president of golf ball R&D for TaylorMade.

“Our tests indicate that amateurs miss the pin by an average of 35 yards on a 150-yard approach shot. Playing Project (a) gives those golfers a better chance at stopping the ball on the green, creating better scoring opportunities.”

The high-spin performance of Project (a) is rooted in “Soft Tech“, a cast urethane cover which is TaylorMade’s softest and most durable to date and is used in the firm’s new Tour Preferred balls.

The cover also provides an even softer feel around the greens than previous TaylorMade offerings. The ball’s durability provides more resistance to shearing.

While Project (a) spins more on shots into the green, it’s engineered to spin less off the driver to promote longer and straighter drives.

Why PROJECT (a) works for amateurs

by Dean Snell, vice president of golf ball R&D for TaylorMade

“Amateurs need more spin from about 80 yards and in, where they record 80 per cent of their shots during a round. Tour players average about 10,000rpm with their wedges.

It takes about 9000rpm for a ball to spin and come back [on the green]. But amateurs only average about 5000rpm of spin. To close the gap between amateurs and professionals, Project (a) balls are designed to have maximum spin with a golfer’s short clubs, from the 9-iron and in for most golfers.

Every extra 1000rpm amateurs can generate with those clubs will stop the ball five feet closer to its landing point.”
