Team TG takes the 30ft Putt Challenge

A heartbreaking lip-out was the closest team Today’s Golfer came to holing one in our 30ft Putt Challenge for National Golf Month.

Staff writer Joe Downes’ effort agonisingly slipped by our hole, as we took on the challenge in TG’s Peterborough offices – on a carpet that would be rolling about 15 on the stimpmetre!

The challenge has been designed to encourage non-golfers to try golf (and to help raise awareness of National Golf Month). Everyone can get involved as little skill and only a putter and a golf ball (or similar) are required.

The 30ft Putt Challenge can be done anywhere and you only need a putter and ball (or similar) to play.

A few simple rules

  1. It’s just a challenge and no golfing expertise is required. Find the most amusing or extreme place to putt.

  2. Measure out 30ft, either putt to a hole on a golf course, or place an A4 sheet of paper with a 4 ¼” hole cut out or a paper cup.

  3. Make your extreme putt and play until the ball rests in the hole/cup.

  4. Video and photograph your challenge and send to social@golfmonth.co.uk or upload onto Facebook and Twitter. Facebook: Follow www.facebook.com/nationalgolfmonth then include @nationalgolfmonth and the #GetGolfing hashtag. Twitter: Use @Nat_Golf_Month and #GetGolfing

  5. An optional charity donation to Dementia UK can be made at Just Giving or by texting PUTT88 (and the amount of the donation) to 70070

National Golf Month is taking place now and targets getting 100,000 lapsed golfers and new lady golfers playing golf by asking golf clubs to upload the following promotions; Special coaching /playing offers, Unique golf club membership offers and Open Day deals.

The initiative is backed by the owner of Today’s Golfer, Bauer Media, which reaches over 22 million UK consumers every week through their radio stations and publications including Kiss, Grazia, Empire, Magic, Absolute Radio, Today’s Golfer and Golf World).
