VIDEO: José María Olazábal on being a Ryder Cup captain

2012 Ryder Cup winning Captain José María Olazábal spoke exclusively with Nespresso, the Official Coffee Supplier to The 2014 Ryder Cup, on what it takes to be a team captain, and also offered a prediction for this year’s Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

José María, whose illustrious career includes three Ryder Cup wins, reminisced about what being a Ryder Cup winning captain meant to him and why that was such an important time in his career. José María also spoke about the difficulties and the pressures that came with the captaincy, offering up his wisdom for Paul McGinley to take into this year’s Ryder Cup.

“As captain there are a lot of things that you have to do. A lot of things you don’t see and don’t realise when you are a player. Sometimes you have to leave players on the bench that you know have been working hard for a year and a half and you’re telling them you have to rest today. It’s not easy. It’s very difficult. But it’s something I’m really glad I did.”

Having played in The Ryder Cup seven times, been vice captain twice and captain once, José María knows a thing or two about this prestigious golf tournament. Watch the video to find out his prediction for The 2014 Ryder Cup.
