Two-time Phoenix Open champion Phil Mickelson, Masters champion Bubba Watson, fan-favourite Rickie Fowler, 2010 WM Phoenix Open champion Hunter Mahan and 2012 defending tournament champion Kyle Stanley are among the first commitments to the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played the week of January 28 – February 3 at the TPC Scottsdale.

To date, 9 of the top-30 and 65 of the top-125 money leaders from the 2012 season have committed.  A field of 132 players will vie for the $6.2 million purse, the $1,116,000 first-place check and FedEx Cup points.

“We’re really excited about how the field for the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open is shaping up,” said 2013 Tournament Chairman Tom Altieri. “The early commitments are strong and more big names are expected to commit soon.”

Bubba Watson (8), Mickelson (17), Nick Watney (20), Mahan (26) and Fowler (31) are the highest ranked players on the Official World Golf Ranking currently in the field.

Other top-ranked players who have committed include Carl Pettersson (32), Nicolas Colsaerts (36), Robert Garrigus (39), and Scott Piercy (42). Other notables to commit to date include 12-time PGA TOUR winner Justin Leonard and 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover. The field currently includes 25 players with TOUR wins over the last two years.

Five past tournament champions are currently in the field, including Stanley (2012), Mark Wilson (2011), Mahan (2010), J.B. Holmes (2006 & 2008) and Mickelson (1996 & 2005).

The tournament host Thunderbirds have raised more than $80 million for charities, with more than $50 million generated since 2004. The 2013 edition will mark the 78th playing of the event, making it one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR (not including the major championships).

Title sponsor Waste Management, Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management services in North America.
