Ryder Cup aces set for Dunhill Links

Several of Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes, including world no.1 Rory McIlroy (pictured), will remain in Scotland this week to compete in the prestigious Dunhill Links Championship being played on the links of the Old Course, St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

McIlroy, who led Europe to another memorable and emphatic Ryder Cup victory at Gleneagles yesterday, will be the star turn at the Dunhill Links along with Ryder Cup teammate Martin Kaymer, the reigning US Open champion who also won The Players Championship at Sawgrass.

To add extra spice, and this time competing against them as opposed to managing them will be triumphant European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. Other Ryder Cup heroes set to play are Stephen Gallacher, winner in 2004, and currently Scotland’s leading player being ranked 34th in the world, and French favourite Victor Dubuisson.

In addition to McIlroy, Kaymer, other Major Champions include Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel. Between them the seven have won 16 Major titles.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which takes place from October 2-5 and the the celebs line-up includes soccer aces

Sir Bobby Charlton, Johan Cruyff, Michael Ballack, Gianfranco Zola and Luis Figo, film and TV stars Hugh Grant, Greg Kinnear and Kyle MacLachlan, rock music legends Don Felder of the Eagles, Huey Lewis and Tico Torres from Bon Jovi and cricket legends Sir Ian Botham and Shane Warne.

Entrance to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be FREE at all three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A ticket price of £20 (concessionary £15) will be charged for the final day’s play over the Old Course on Sunday, October 5. Entry for under 16s and students is free.
