Fantasy Golf Preview – Travelers Championship 2016

Bubba Watson is defending his Travelers Championship title this week at River Highlands Connecticut but will you be including the American in your fantasy team?

The starting date was not the only change to this year’s Championship, which traditionally had followed the U.S. Open in the third week of June, however it was pushed back on the calendar to help accommodate the Olympics.

Tuesday was the first chance for golfers to test the recently renovated course at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

The course is par-70 and 6,841 yards in length and nearly 50 outdated bunkers have been removed as part of a multi-million-dollar renovation project.

The aim of the project was to modernise the experience for both golfers and spectators ahead of the 2016 competition.

“It’s all about appeal. They’ve tried to renovate for looks,” said defending champion Watson.

“I don’t know if you’d call it modernization or something, but it looks newer, fresher.”

Here are three players we think it is worth considering for your Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf selections:

1: Marc Leishman £12.5M

The Aussie has won just once on the PGA TOUR back at the 2012 Travelers Championship.

He may not be in great form but he is up against much weaker field this week and we think he is well worth including.

2: Justin Thomas £11.5M

Thomas hasn’t played well recently   and he even missed the cut at this tournament in 2015  but the 23-year-old has talent and will come good at some point.

3: Tyrrell Hatton £7M

Hatton doesn’t often pop-up in the United States as he tends to normally play European Tour events but he has recently enjoyed a string of good performances including a second at the Scottish Open, a fifth at the Open Championship and a 10th at the PGA Championship.

If he can keep that form going this week he is sure to be in with a shout.
