Jason Day withdraws from WGC Dell Match Play

Jason Day conceeded his match against Pat Perez after just six holes before withdrawing from the WGC Dell Match Play due to personal reasons.

The former World No.1 withdrew from the first World Golf Championship in Mexico earlier this year with back issues, but this time the withdrawl comes due to a much more heartbreaking reason.

He looked in great form before the tournament physically, but the defending Champion greeted the media centre at the WGC Dell Match Play in tears as he explained his mother is terminally ill with cancer.

“Obviously its not an excuse my back is fine im 100% healthy,” Day started before struggling to contain his emotions while discussing his mother.

“She has lung cancer … at the start of the year she was diagnosed with 12 months to live.”

“She’s going in to surgery on Friday and its really hard to even comprehend being on the golf course right now because of what she’s going through”
