Fantasy Golf: Rocco Forte Open

The European Tour heads to Italy this week for the Rocco Forte Open, a week before their flagship event at Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship.

Many have taken a week off heading in to Wentworth, but there are still plenty of great European Tour players in action at the Verdura Resort in Sicily – and with lower prices than the PGA Tour players at the AT&T Byron Nelson this week, we reckon it’s a great way to build up a solid fantasy golf team.

The Rocco Forte Open returns for the first time since 2012, and and will be staged on a 7217 yard par 71 composite course combining Verdura’s two 18-hole championship courses: the East course and West Course.

So who should be in your fantasy team?

Fantasy Picks: Rocco Forte Open

Jordan Smith: Fantasy Price £8.5m
Three top 10s in 2017, Smith is looking for a first victory. He missed the cut last week but his previous four results were T14-T8-T17-T29, so we think it was just a blip in what has otherwise been an incredibly consistent season.

James Morrison: Fantasy Price £7.5m
His worst start in 7 events was a T31 at the Volvo China Open, but other than that Morrison’s 2017 has been peppered with a series of top 10 and top 13 finishes.  The two-time European Tour winner last missed a cut in January, and is looking for his first victory since the Open de Espana in 2015.

Rikard Karlberg: Fantasy Price £7m
Karlberg has really turned around a poor start to the year in his last three starts, and it wouldn’t surprise us if he ended up in contention this week. He comes in to the Rocco Forte Open following his T18 in China, and had gone T24-T58 in the previous two starts. All we know is the trend is towards the top of the leaderboard.

Phacara Khongwhatmai: Fantasy Price £6.5m
The 18-year old already made his name well known with his second-place after making it to the final of the World Super 6 Perth in February, and last week was T18.

Paul Peterson: Fantasy Price £6m
It’s been a pretty consistent season for Peterson, who has made his last six cuts in a row which includes a top 10 at the Joburg Open.

Julian Quesne: Fantasy Price £6m
Quesne is another European Tour player that flipped a horrific start to 2017 on it’s head in his last couple of tournaments – we feel he’s a bit of a risk/reward fantasy pick. There’s no missing out that he missed five cuts in his first six events, but since then he was T33 at the Shenzhen International and T18 at the Volvo China Open last week.

Romain Wattell: Fantasy Price £5.5m
For £5.5m, Wattell is a great deal in terms of low fantasy cash. He hasn’t finished over par in any of his last three tournaments, and after a T24 at the Volvo China Open last week, he looks in great position to make a move in Italy.

Trevor Fisher Jr: Fantasy Price £5.5m
Fisher Jr is having a great season, and we reckon he’s a pretty good pick this week. In six events he’s had two top 10s, and just one missed cut. His last four starts? T35-T8-T29-T16.
