What we say...

These are the brand new Mizuno MX200 irons, a one-piece Grain Flow Forged iron which features Mizuno’s new Y-TUNE  forgiveness technology.

A deep pocket cavity, milled to preserve ther Mizuno MX200’s one piece feel is complemented by a Y shaped reinforcement pad, extending a 5% larger sweet area into a toe orientated position. The wizards at Mizuno found that this would, in theory, match the miss hit patterns of us mortal amateurs.

But the Mizuno MX200 clubs are certainly solid, as our gear team found out when they took them out for a test drive.

2009 Review

You might think that iron champions Mizuno only make great clubs for better players. You’d be wrong – and this stellar performer demonstrates why.

In short, the MX-200 was the best on test in the hands of our team. And with good reason.

The test team loved the look of the club; its simple, yet doesn’t appear hard to hit. An all round winner. It has a new ‘Y Tuned pad’ which, without getting too tied up in the technology, helps to reinforce the face of the iron and provides increased strength, power and great feel.

In fact, the guys had this pegged at full marks for these two categories. They were right up there too in terms of forgiveness and the dispersion was pretty tight too. The triple cut sole of the MX-200s helps to reduce drag through the turf, which in turn leads to cleaner, crisper iron shots. In a game improving iron, that’ something to behold.

And, althought haven’t talked much about sound in this test, there was little doubt that these produced a brilliantly powerful noise at impact. The other great thing about Mizuno irons is that they are sold seperately, retailing at £75 in steel and a tenner more in graphite.

This means you can build your set up gradually, rather than forking out a big lump sum in one go. If you’re after chunky, super confidence inspiring irons there are bigger, more bulbous models on the market but this topped the lot on the day. If you want forgiveness with a touch of class, look this way.

The award winning MX-200 takes Grain Flow forged forgiveness a quantum leap forward with the introduction of Y-Tune performance.

A deep pocket cavity, milled to preserve MX-200's one piece feel is complemented by a Y shaped reinforcement pad, extending a five per cent larger sweet area into the toe - matching the miss-hit patterns of amateur golfers.

Enhanced solidity in the hitting area and an aggressive triple cut sole design ensures MX-200's place in the bags of both professionals and amateurs.

The triple cut sole has an aggressive camber for improved ball striking while the clubhead is grain flow forged from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel for solid feel and distance control.

I recently picked up a brand new set of Mizuno MX 200's and have become an instant Mizuno fan. I am not the best golfer by any means, and these irons just give me that little bit extra help. The other day, I hit a ball way out on the toe of my 9 iron, just hitting about half of the normal area on the ball... and it still flew straight on. Only half the normal distance maybe, but still straight... That's what I call forgiving. And the feel you get when you hit them spot on is fantastic. More so, they are gorgeous and top quality. You can hardly go wrong with this set. Cheers, Serge Amsterdam, the Netherlands
