What we say
The home of the French Open is a wonderful inland links, built on what used to be a rubbish tip to the west of Paris. A dune-like landscape, but with a ‘stadium finish’, with the last four holes set in a bowl and circling round dramatic lakes. The club's struggle to dispense with rain water and the traffic it hosts result in it not always being in immaculate condition. Nevertheless, the Ryder Cup host in 2018 – housed on a former rubbish dump in western Paris – is still gaining more fans. “Golf National is comfortably the best course on tour for me now,” says Tour star Mark Foster. “You can’t afford to drive it poorly, but I just love going there every year for the French Open.” Its thrilling finish, with the closing four around lakes, will be ideal for the Ryder Cup.
