Palheiro Golf Club

What we say

Palheiro Golf Club may play second fiddle to Santa do Serra as far as Madeiran golf is concerned but nevertheless it’s well worth paying a visit. Okay, it is a fairly short golf course but if you’re wayward you can be severely punished: make no mistake, it’s no piece of cake – sorry couldn’t resist that. Anyway splendid, Woburn-esque (in places) Palheiro breathtakingly overlooks the bustling capital of Funchal with its 15th century cathedral.

Opened in 1993, Palheiro Golf Club was designed by Cabell B. Robinson within the property of a magnificent 200-years-old country estate overlooking the capital of Funchal. The golf course was renovated in 2003 with two holes being replaced and a six-hole academy layout being created.

  • 4.5 out of 5 A course for the Gods

    By powerdrive

With cloudless skies, meticulously managed greens and views over the blue Atlantic ocean - this was a round of golf for the Gods. Looking down over the main city Funchal amidst the most stunning scenery, we were torn between playing and just standing there soaking up the wow!

  • 3.5 out of 5 interesting layout

course has made good use of available land ,but could be in better condition. You need to play it twice to get an idea of the holes as the strokesavers don't give you a real idea of undulations
