Monte Mayor

What we say

A truly awesome course. The course climbs and falls through fantastic, rugged scenery and there’s not really a weak hole. It’s not long, but you have to be straight. The fairways are in superb condition and the green are a tough test. The clubhouse is plush and welcoming and not ridiculously expensive. A truly memorable experience.

Talk about signature holes - this course has 18 of them! Played off white tees and our fourball was wowed at every tee. Great views, great holes, great challenge and a must for anyone visiting the area. They are also building a new clubhouse which will only add to the wow factor.

I've played the course first time few years ago. 2007 i got the chance to play again. I want to know if i already got the same feelings. Not as impressive like the first time. But also impressive. Great design, great area and great course. If you are able to visit and to play - just do it !!!!

One of the most exhilirating courses I've ever played. Keep going back year after year. The tee boxes may be a bit rough but the greens are generally magnificent and scary quick with thick rough and deep ravines! Definitely a course everyone should play before they die!

Who came up with the idea of putting a golf course in the middle of a mountain? But what a great idea it was. This is an incredibly difficult course, the hardest I have ever played. You could even say that it’s too difficult, bordering on crazy golf. The beautiful scenery from every fairway helps to take your mind off the cost of the balls you’ve put into the ravine! Precision is the order of the day, picking the right club is vital. Don’t be too surprised if you play reasonably well and have a ridiculously high score at the end of the day. Facilities were superb with a brand a new driving range. The green’s and tee’s needed attention when I visited but all in all, a top course that’s worth a visit.

Fantastic course with great views and stunning holes that will test any level of golfer. Local rule allowing lost balls to be tret as if lost in a water hazard keeps play moving. You've got to have LOTS of balls to play this course well and not just of the golf variety. Thoroughly recommended, but don't expect to score well!!!

What a great course!! Superb holes but bring your best game, must be one of the hardest I have played as it is not very forgiving. A must play if you are in the area - hugely enjoyable. All it lackes is a driving range. The great poet Simon Armitage is said to frequent this 18-holer!!

  • 5 out of 5 you need balls to play Monte

Have played Monte evry year for the past 6 years. Their slogan was "you need balls to play Monte Mayor" (double meaning)The course is high in the mountains and all you can here is the wildlife and the odd golfer cursing. Spectacular target golf in a beautiful setting. One of the par threes has the tee on one mountainside and the green on another 160yds away with a deep valley inbetween. The clubhouse is an old Finca building with a courtyard within to have a drink afterwards. Hopefully they will not over develop the area.

  • 4 out of 5 Spectacular.. freindly... wonderful

QUIRKY BUT WONDERFUL - MUCH BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND AS YOU HAVE TO NEGOTIATE YOUR WAY ROUND RAVINES, PONDS AND SHEER DROPS MAKING IT ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR ON THE COSTA. BRING PLENTY GOLF BALLS AS YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY LOSE MANY!! FRIENDLY STAFF AND VERY GOOD OVERALL CONDITION

Two things you will need with you when you play here – a dirty great big bag full of golf balls you know you will never see again and a camera. Surely one of the most unforgiving golf courses on the Costa Del Sol, if you’re not straight off the tee forget it! Trouble lies in wait at every turn. In spite of this, this is one the most enjoyable rounds of golf I have ever had. I play off fifteen and to watch low single figure golfers reduced to hacking level was a sheer joy. It was even nicer to watch the golf ball snobs reaching for the Molitors at the bottom of their bags towards the end of the round. The scenery is possibly the best in the Costa Del Sol and the welcome that awaits in the nineteenth after such purgatory is heaven. Would I play it again? Definitely. Would I recommend it? Depends how many golf balls you have and whether you have a good sense of humour!
